Accelerate your career with a fast-track training solution to become a certified diesel repair mechanic technician from our state-of-the-art 23,000 square foot Southern Gap Transportation and Logistics Center.
Utilizing a blend of classroom and hands-on instruction, participants will earn a mix of nationally recognized certifications. American Service Excellence® (ASE),Snap-On® certifications, American Welding Society SMAW certification and Commercial Driver’s License training. Upon successful completion, graduates will have earned and obtained the necessary knowledge to pursue the career of a certified Diesel Repair Mechanic Technician within the diesel industry.

The Southern Gap Transportation and Logistical Center located in Buchanan County, VA.
Qualifying VA residents can receive funding assistance to have their tuition 100% covered with no out-of-pocket expenses. In addition to that, qualifying VA Residents can earn a one-time $1,000 stipend through VA Ready.
Funding sources are also potentially available to WV and KY residents through their local Workforce Development Board partners. These requests should be sent to the local agency where the student resides and additional questions directed to that agency as well.

The students will work through real-world situations to implement solutions in an experiential learning environment.
The Southern Gap Transportation and Logistics Center project has been made possible through a partnership of the Buchanan County IDA, the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA), and Southwest. The Center offers Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Diesel Repair Mechanic program, as well as additional credentialing programs including SNAP-ON certifications, and other in-demand workforce training to support the workforce needs of various businesses in the region. The Buchanan County IDA’s mission is to foster the economic growth of Buchanan County. Southwest Virginia Community College is dedicated to being the region’s premier workforce solutions and training provider, serving the college’s service region since 1967.
